10 Reasons Your PS4 Is Turning Off  Itself That You Can Fix

Ps4 Keeps Turning Off

Question: My Sony PlayStation 4 has a habit of shutting down on its own at inconvenient times. It’s been over a year since I got it. I’ve been using it on a regular basis, and everything was well until I started having problems turning it off. My PS4 would freeze, crash, and switch off when I was playing Call of Duty online. I turned it back on and off a few times after this happened, and I saw a blue light for a few seconds before it shut off again. I assumed it was a cable problem. I moved the HDMI to a different port on my Samsung TV, but that didn’t solve the problem, so I bought a new HDMI cable and used it in a different port. The same thing happens every time. I can sometimes get it to work by manually turning it on and off a few times. The problem currently is that after a few hours of playing online or in single player campaign mode on my PS4, the console will power off on its own. It may not occur for weeks at a period, or it may occur every few hours. It occasionally produces a screeching noise before turning off. What may be causing my PS4 to go down at odd periods if it isn’t a cable issue? Could it be a faulty component within the console? This should not be happening after only a year! I’d like to know what could cause a PlayStation PS4 to turn off by itself. so I can keep using my PS4 and playing all of the games I’ve bought Sony wants $200-$250 to send my console back to be repaired, but I can’t afford it. Please assist me in resolving my problem on my own.

How To Fix A PS4 That Keeps Turning Off On Its Own

Answer: – There are a few things that can cause a Sony PlayStation 4 to turn off at any time…

TRY THIS FIRST, AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM:
-Click FULL INITIALIZATION under SETTINGS, then INITIALIZATION, then INITIALIZE SYSTEM.
-If this does not resolve the issue:
-In SAFE MODE, select REBUILD DATABASE.
-Make sure your PlayStation 4 is up to date.

Make sure you have the most recent system firmware by going to SYSTEM.
If the FULL INITIALIZATION or REBUILD DATABASE does not work, look into the main problems that cause your PS4 to turn off on its own…

  • The power cord can disconnect or become loose from the electrical wall outlet – Make sure the power cord to the wall is tight and undamaged.
  • The power cord on the power bar can disconnect or become loose – Make sure the power cord that connects to the power bar is secure and not damaged.
  • The power cord that connects to the rear of the PS4 can become loose or disconnected – Make sure the power cord to the PS4 is secure and not damaged.
  • If the PS4 is connected to a power strip, unplug it and plug it directly into a wall socket to ensure the power strip isn’t the source of the problem.
  • Make sure your PS4 is in a well-ventilated environment, as it will overheat and shut down to avoid causing damage if it can’t release the heat properly.
  • Make sure the PS4’s fan isn’t blocked — if the fan is blocked, it won’t be able to adequately dissipate the hot air and will overheat and shut down.
  • If you’re using the PS4 in an area with pets or in a dirty environment, hair and other particles are likely to have gotten inside and obstructed the fan from the inside.
  • Dust or dirt may have gotten inside the PS4 and caked up on the circuit boards and fan, causing it to overheat over time.
  • Using a can of compressed air, blow into the PS4’s air intake and utilise the compressed air where the fan is to clear any dust or dirt accumulation.
  • Check that the cooling fan is rotating – you may have a burned out fan that is causing the overheating and shutting down issue; if so, purchase a replacement fan.

IF ALL ELSE FAILS AND THE ABOVE DOESN’T WORK FOR YOU: -Unplug the PS4 and disassemble it if you don’t want to void the warranty. To get to the inside, remove only the top section.
-Avoid touching any sections of the circuit boards with your hands; instead, wear gloves when working.
-Once you’ve removed the PS4’s top “shell,” use compressed air to blast away and out any dust, filth, or hair.

-Ensure that any dirt, dust, and hair are removed from the fan, the boards, and the inside of the PS4 to ensure that dirt or dust is not the source of the overheating problem.
-Once the PS4’s inside is entirely free of debris and dust, carefully reassemble it and test it.
NOTE: If you’re taking apart the PS4, make sure the fan rotates by hand to make sure it’s not stuck.
If the fan is broken, replace it with a new one and install it yourself — It’s simple and affordable to replace the fan in your PS4.
