If you find that your Samsung ice maker keeps freezing in your Samsung refrigerator, do the following:
1. Check the Ice Box
Inspect the box of the ice maker to see if there are any leaks. Put a flashlight under it and see if there are bright reflections on the inside. If so, it means that there are cracks on the wall of the compartment that need to be sealed.
Remove the ice bucket and ice maker. Then, take the auger motor assembly out of the compartment. Next, seal the cans from the left side and back using epoxy sealant.
Allow the sealant to dry completely, about 24 hours. After this time, you can replace the auger, ice maker, and ice bucket, in that order.
If there is a leak in the can, moist air will easily enter and build up frost around the ice maker.
2. Check the Ice Bucket Gasket
Take the ice bucket out of the refrigerator and inspect the gasket. If it is weak or loose, replace it as soon as possible. This is because a weak gasket compromises the temperature of the ice maker’s surroundings. This lets hot air into the compartment and creates an easy build-up of ice.
3. Check Ice Chute Flap
The flap that covers the snow slope and serves as its door should be flush to the housing. If it doesn’t flush, check to see if a piece of ice is preventing it from closing properly.
Even if you don’t see anything in there, it helps to pour some warm water down the slope to completely clean it. This will help remove any snow or debris around the mouth of the slope. Next, try taking the flap off to see if it sits flush on the housing.
If the flap doesn’t close completely, hot air will go into the ice maker from the smallest space. Over time, the ice maker will freeze.
4. Check Temperature
If the temperature in the freezer is too low, it can cause the ice maker to freeze. Therefore, increase the temperature setting for the freezer if it is below 0 degrees Fahrenheit.
And if it’s over 10 degrees Fahrenheit, turn it down a few degrees. This is because the compressor and fan do extra work due to the high temperature. And in doing so, the freezer gets too cold, freezing everything in it, including the ice maker.
5. Check Location
Remove the unit from any direct heat source or direct sunlight. This is because the unit will automatically put in extra effort to maintain a cool temperature whenever it heats up. And when it does so, it may freeze more than necessary. This affects the ice maker.
If you cannot move the unit from where it is located, reduce the temperature to the recommended point. Doing so will optimize the coolness inside the unit without freezing the ice maker or any other object.
6. Check the Water Line
If your Samsung ice maker keeps freezing, inspect the water line to see if it is frozen. If it is or it has frozen ice, melt it by pouring some warm water over it using a syringe or turkey baster.
And if you can, detach the water line from the refrigerator and melt the ice in your kitchen sink. Once done, attach it again.
A frozen water line means there is no water supply to the ice maker. And if the ice maker keeps working, it will eventually freeze, even if it is making little or no ice.
Note: It is important to avoid using a hair dryer on the water line. This is because the water line is plastic and using direct heat on it can deform the plastic. And if this happens you will have to get a new water line.
7. Check Water Inlet Valve
Remove the valve’s screen filter and clean it with warm water and soap. Next, test the ice maker’s solenoid with a multimeter to see if it is still receiving power. If there is no power to the solenoid, replace the valve as it is bad.
A faulty inlet valve can cause water to fill the ice mold and spill around the ice maker. When this happens, the spilled water will freeze around the ice maker.
You can also check to see if the ice maker’s fan, which is in the auger assembly on the back of the ice maker, is frozen. Thaw it by manually defrosting the unit or putting it in forced defrost mode.
Note: These steps work for all types of Samsung Ice makers. So if Samsung ice maker keeps freezing in French door refrigerator, side-by-side refrigerator, top freezer refrigerator or bottom freezer refrigerator, then these are the ones for you.

Samsung Freezer Over Freezing – Quick Fix

If your Samsung freezer is over freezing, do the following:
1. Close the door properly
Make sure the freezer door closes properly each time it is opened. And when it is opened, make sure that it is not kept open for a long time. If the door is closed incorrectly, the cold air in the compartment will escape easily and quickly. And hot air will quickly take its place. This is especially true if you live in a humid area.
Also, make sure the door seal is in good working condition. Do this by using the dollar bill test. Close the freezer door over the one dollar bill. Then, try to get the bill out by closing the door. If the bill falls off or comes out, the seal is weak and should be replaced.
If the seal is dirty enough, you can clean that as well. Dirt prevents the seal from working as it should. So clean it thoroughly with warm water and mild soap.
Additionally, prevent items from being placed on the back wall of the freezer. If this happens then ice is easier to form, because it is caused by the proximity of objects to wind vents.
If it’s a bottom drawer freezer, the ice can prevent the drawer from closing completely and the seal working well. So if you notice this, try defrosting the freezer first or removing the ice. See if this fixes the sealing problem. If not, replace the seal.
2. Cover the Ice Route Flap Properly
Check the flap of the ice driveway to make sure it sits flush to the housing. If it isn’t, remove any that are left open and make sure it closes properly this time.
Otherwise, moist air will enter the freezer freely through the passage and cause frosting, which will ensure that the Samsung Ice Maker continues to freeze.
3. Ensure Proper Ventilation
Make sure nothing is blocking the air passages in the freezer. This will make for proper air flow around the compartment.
If anything obstructs the vents, there will be colder areas than other areas, even to the point of freezing. And any objects around the vents will freeze.
Also, be sure to place items in the freezer correctly. That is, do not overstock the freezer. Keep it at least 3/4 full or 1/2 path full. This helps the air to pass through freely. Also, there will be enough stuff to absorb the cold air.
4. Reset Temperature
It is possible to accidentally shift the temperature lower than it should. So there is no harm in checking the setting. If it’s too low, less than 0 degrees, adjust it a few degrees higher. The best bet is to keep it at 0 degrees.
It also helps to check if the power freeze function is on. Turn it off by pressing and holding the freezer button for about 3 seconds.
This function lowers the temperature in the freezer below a set point in a short period of time, whether you adjust it or not. The best time to use it is when you have a lot of things accumulating within a short span of time.
The power freeze function runs non-stop for about 72 hours but automatically turns off after this time. So unless you turn it off manually, it will keep the freezer very cold.
If the temperature setting is too low, the freezer will continue to freeze no matter what else you do.
5. Clean the Condenser Coils
Check the coils in the bottom, back of the freezer. Importantly, if they are dirty, clean them using a condenser brush or a vacuum brush. Clean the coils regularly to maintain them.
The refrigerator may be attempting to compensate for the looseness of the coils that do not dissipate heat. It does this by over running the compressor and other parts of the refrigerating system.
While this can create more heat and heat inside the unit, it can also cause overheating.
6. Properly Align the Door Hinges
This applies if you have recently removed the unit door for some reason. Check to see if it is properly aligned with the rest of the body and is hinged. Hot air will take advantage of the smallest gaps to enter the unit and compromise the temperature.

7. Close the Defrost Drain
Empty the freezer and check the drain on the back wall. If there is snow on top of it, pour some warm water over the hole to melt the ice. Make sure the water runs free into the drain pan at the bottom of the unit before you stop.
And if there is debris in the drain, use a stiff wire or pour a mixture of warm water and vinegar down the hole to remove the debris. Do this until the water is clear and empty in the pan.
However, it is important to check the unit’s defrost system. While you can fix the problem of over-freezing by manually defrosting the freezer, this is only temporary.
Freezing means that something has failed in the defrost system. We say this because newer models of refrigerators and freezers are frost-free.
But if your unit is an older model, you can defrost it manually. Simply empty the freezer and store the foods in another freezer or cooler. Unplug the unit and open the door.
Place towels on the side of the unit to catch dripping water. You can speed up the defrost process by placing bowls of hot water inside the freezer or by rubbing the ice with a cloth soaked in warm water. You can also scrape the ice with a wooden or plastic spatula as it melts.
If you don’t speed up the process it can take up to 24 hours for all the ice to melt completely. So give it time.
Then, make sure the freezer is completely dry before plugging it back in for cooling. If moisture remains, it will build up to frost and reduce the wait time before manually defrosting the freezer again.
