Washer Hose Leaking The washer hoses are dripping! Hoses from washing machines can leak and cause water damage. If your washing machine’s water fill hoses are leaking from beneath the washer, you should inspect them as soon as possible. Water leaks at the back and around the washer can be caused by damaged or loose washing machine hoses. Water hoses that have been damaged should be inspected or replaced as soon as feasible.

A leaking washer can soon turn into a tragedy. If you don’t fix a broken water hose right away, it could leak even more water, causing major damage to your laundry room or home. A washer leak could necessitate the replacement of walls, tiles, baseboards, flooring, and other materials. If you don’t fix a washer leak as soon as you see it, it might cost you thousands of dollars in repairs and costly insurance claims.

- WORN OUT WASHERS OR SEALS A worn washer that rests in the water fill hose is a common cause of a washer water hose leak. These washers become “smooshed” with time, allowing water to travel through and causing a leak. These washers or seals are simple to replace.

The second reason for a leaking water fill hose is: The continual vibration can cause the water hose to come free. If this is the case, all you have to do to halt the leak is tighten the water hose connection. Check the washer’s and the wall’s connections for tightness. - WATER HOSES THAT ARE DAMAGED OR WORN
Another reason is that water hoses have become worn or broken. Water will leak out of the back of your washer if the water hose is damaged or ripped. To avoid pinhole leaks and bursting, replace rubber water hoses with stainless steel braided “BURST PROOF” hoses.

How do you fix leaking washer inlet hoses?
To fix a washer that is leaking water from the fill hoses, follow these steps:
- Disconnect the washing machine from the electrical outlet.
- To access the water hoses, carefully move the washer out from the wall.
- Turn off the washing machine’s hot and cold water supplies.
- Catch any water with a small bucket underneath the water hoses.
- Remove both the HOT and the COLD water hoses.
- Disconnect the hoses from the washer and the wall.
- Examine the hoses for signs of wear and tear as well as any damage.
- Replace any broken hoses with new stainless steel hoses.
- Replace the washers on both ends of the hoses with new ones (total of 4 washers)
- Replace the washers and hoses on the back of the washer, as well as the wall/tap.
- Tighten the hoses by hand, then with slip joint pliers or a pipe wrench, one quarter turn.
- After the hoses have been attached, turn on the HOT and COLD water faucets.
- Inspect both ends of the hoses for water leaks.
- If no leaks are discovered, re-energize the washer.
- Do a test wash and look for any leaks in the water hoses.
- Carefully slip the washer back into place if there are no leaks.
- The leak in the washer’s water hose has been repaired.
NOTE: Using a filter screen on the water hose end that connects to the washer water inlet valve is a good idea. Any particles or hard water that may enter the washer are caught by this filter screen. This keeps foreign things out of the washer and out of the water inlet valve, which can clog it up.
