The best thing to do when a washer leaks is to verify the leak before you start troubleshooting, as it will help you solve the problem.

The youngest causes water leaks: If a washing machine is leaking, first try to determine if the water hose is leaking. This is the most common issue when the washer leaks. A water hose behind the washer may be loose and just needs to be tightened.

Troubleshooting leakage to washing machines (MOST COMMON FIX):

  1. Unplug the washing machine from the power outlet.
  2. Slide the washer out about 12 inches (being careful not to damage the water hose).
  3. Put a water hose behind the washer.
  4. Find out how the water hose connects to the back of the wall and the washer.
  5. Hand tight hoses connected to the water outlet on both the wall (water and cold).
  6. Tighten the two water hoses connected to the hand washing machine (hot and cold).

This is the most common cause of a washer leak, if you still have a water leak, see below for more information …

Troubleshooting Whether a washing machine is causing a leak:

  1. Inspect water hoses and connections to find out if they are sources of water leakage.

  3. If you find a check for moisture or connection leaks, make sure it is installed correctly and safely.

Troubleshooting water leakage from detergent drawer:

  1. Check that the detergent being used is being used according to the direction / manual.
  2. Make sure the detergent in the detergent drawer does not go past the marked maximum line.
  3. If the washer detergent contains leakage water, use less detergent.
  4. Always ensure that the detergent drawer is completely closed while driving the washer.

Troubleshooting that washer drain hose is not the problem:

  1. Make sure the drain hose is not inserted more than 6 inches into the tub or standpipe.
  2. Make sure the drain hose is properly secured so that it does not go down.
  3. Use a zip-tie to secure the drain hose to the standpipe.
  4. Standpipe should not be more than 18 inches and not more than 96 inches long.
  5. Make sure the drain hose and standpipe are not airtight as this can cause problems.
  6. Make sure there is a hose retainer to hold the drain pipe in place.
  7. If the drain pipe is placed correctly, make sure that the washing machine is 100% level.

Troubleshooting if the washer drain pump is causing a leak:

  1. Check drain pump area for any type of leakage.
  2. Inspect the water holes going through the drain pump.
  3. Check all hose clamps on the water lines at the drain pump to make sure they are tight and not damaged.
  4. To fix a leaking water hose on the drain pump, tighten it to prevent water leakage.
  5. If you find a damaged water line or tube pole on the drain pump, replace it with a new one.
  6. A drain pump that leaks will have to be replaced.

Once you troubleshoot all of the above problems, run a quick wash cycle and inspect to see if the water leak has stopped.
